The Languages without Borders (LwB) Programme was an initiative of the Ministry of Education (MEC) through the Department of Higher Education (SESu) in conjunction with the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Higher Education (CAPES) that aimed to prepare foreign language teachers and promote language learning for students, teachers and administrative technicians of higher education institutions in Brazil. My responsibilities included:- Teaching a variety of English for Academic Purposes (EAP) and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses (such as Academic Reading and Writing for Proficiency Exams, Academic Oral Comprehension and Expression, Preparatory for TOEFL IBT, Conversation about Movies & TV Shows);- Planning and organising cultural and academic events for the university community;- Analysing different textbooks looking at their appropriateness for the programme and its courses;- Designing new material for language courses offered by the programme, including the creation of PowerPoint slides for all units of the textbooks used, making a more interactive interpretation of the initial proposal;- Conceiving and preparing courses' syllabi and class plans;- Administering the TOEFL ITP exam at the university;- Curating and presenting a multitude of workshops and lectures and mediating training sessions on teaching methodologies and studying for exams techniques;- Promoting the Language without Borders Programme both online and on-campus;- Co-managing the programmes' Facebook page and Moodle platform;- Conducting contextual analyses and needs assessments to guide the offer and development of new courses in the programme;- Mentoring and supporting students throughout the semester and the duration of their courses;- Drafting reports and work plans about tasks performed.
