Import/Export Principal Analyst
• Established the EMC Canada's Trade Compliance & Logistics department by hiring, training and developing staff.• Designed and obtained approval to change the location of the Merge-in-Transit facility from Canada to the United States. If applicable, made recommendations that resulted in duty recovery and/or future duty avoidance.• Assisted and represented various importers during a CBSA multi-program or focused audit. Acted as the primary interface between CBSA officer and the importer. Collected, directly from the importer, all documentation requested by customs, prepared the sample submission, evaluated potential exposure, helped mitigate penalties and if applicable, assisted with the necessary corrective actions. • Successfully responded to multiple origin verification audits. In a particular instance, was able to qualify a product under audit with a net cost regional value content of 50.96%. • Conducted many post entry review processes and upon request help importers setup their own internal process.• Prepared and submitted Advance Customs Rulings requests on behalf of importers. Conducted a thorough review of the product details and characteristics and researched all potential tariff classifications . Ruling letters were drafted with the complete rationale supporting the tariff classification most appropriate to the product in question. Special attention was given to support the tariff classification with the most favorable duty possible. • Helped importers and exporters built their Customs Manual.• Planned, organized, implemented and controlled strategies, programs and processes to ensure contractual obligations were maintained in a manner which ensured good customer relations.• Independently met clients to ensure client needs were being met.
