Lorena Duarte is the principal of Lorena P. Duarte, P. A., an immigration firm, founded a year after moving back home from practicing law in New York City. Lorena was born and raised in Miami, Florida to Colombian immigrant parents. She attended the University of Miami for her undergraduate studies and spent some years in banking and real estate sales before deciding to pursue her dream to become an attorney. She attended law school at St. Thomas University School of Law in Miami, where she was elected President of the Student Bar Association representing the interests of her fellow students and overseeing over 35 student run organizations. During law school, Lorena won a coveted internship at the United Nations in New York City and spent a semester as the legal advisor for a humanitarian organization representing their interests in projects around the world.Upon graduating from law school, Lorena moved to New York City and worked for a real estate law firm on Wall Street specializing in property acquisitions for domestic and foreign investors. Soon after, Lorena was recruited to join an employment litigation firm to represent both plaintiffs and defendants in cases for wage violations, employment discrimination, and wrongful termination. Being fluent in Spanish, Lorena specialized in representing the Latino community in state and federal court recuperating over $1,500,000 in unpaid wages for often undocumented and exploited immigrant workers.Lorena now helps the Latino community with their immigration matters before U.S. Immigration Courts, Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). She specializes in removal defense, including representation of aliens detained in and out of state, including asylum seekers in the Migrant Protocol Program (MPP) in Mexico. Lorena is licensed to practice law in the State of New York, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York, Southern District of New York, and U.S. Immigration Courts. She is fluent in English, Spanish and French. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with friends and family, traveling, and dining.
