I left my job as an online communications advisor in July 2011 when my younger brother Dan went missing. I launched what became the largest campaign of its kind in the world and ran it full-time until his remains were tragically discovered in 2016.Extensive media coverage of Dan’s story led people in the same position to ask for advice, which in 2013 prompted me to found The Missed Foundation (formerly known as MPAN) – an Australian charity dedicated to humanising missing loved ones, alleviating the impact on their families and transforming the way society responds. Our foundation project – a world-first guide of what to do when someone goes missing (www.missingpersonsguide.com) – has now been accessed by 120,000+ people from over 190 countries. On average, more than 150 Australians go missing every day - a number that has almost doubled since Dan disappeared. Research shows that for each missing individual, at least 12 people are directly affected; psychologically, emotionally and financially. Missed exists to lessen this profound burden. 100% community-funded, we've raised over $1M, and have invaluable ongoing pro bono partnerships with leading strategic comms firm SenateSHJ, respected legal firm MinterEllison, and acclaimed advertising agency whiteGREY. Together we've produced countless award-winning campaigns, resources and initiatives, reaching millions of people around Australia and beyond.
