Someone asked me why I would want to run for office when our elected officials seem locked into such ineffective roles. It's a good question, isn't it? There's an old Jewish proverb from the Rabbinic Sage - Hillel the Elder, “If I am not for myself, who will be for me? If I am only for myself, what am I? If not now, when?”I find myself, after many years of holding my voice and activism inside, ready to speak up and speak out on behalf of others. There are so many voices being stifled by discrimination, fear, misguided beliefs, etc., that I find myself wanting to shout from the rooftops to amplify those voices and protect the people impacted. I kept looking around to see who was going to step up to take on the challenge and until I realized the person I was looking for was in the mirror.
