In the Educational Robotics field evaluation is considered a crucial activity and researchers have identified lack of quantitative analysis on how robotics can improve skills and increase learning achievements in students. This traineeship has started with a detailed analysis of the literature on Educational Robotics’ traditional evaluation and Educational Data Mining for assessment in constructionist environments. Then, using Python libraries, Visual Studio Code and Jupyter as programming environments, four machine learning techniques (logistic regression, support vector machine, K-nearest neighbors and random forests) were applied to investigate log data obtained during seven Educational Robotics courses (193 students involved) collected thanks to a tracking system designed by Lorenzo, during his second PhD year. These techniques allowed to predict the students’ performance, comparing a supervised approach (using twelve indicators extracted from the log files as input for the algorithms) and a mixed approach (applying a k-means algorithm to calculate the machine learning features). The results have highlighted that SVM with the mixed approach outperformed the other techniques, and that three learning styles were predominantly emerged from the data mining. Furthermore, we deeply analysed the pedagogical meaning of these three different approaches and the correlation of the discovered patterns with the performance obtained by learners.
