Facilitates the day-to-day activities of an individual shift of Finishing Department employees. Utilizing knowledge and experience, provides training to employees and is responsible for their individual performance, material handling issues and maintenance, as well as resolving production problems. Uses developed people skills to achieve production and departmental goals and has responsibility for personnel issues including enforcement of company policies and resolution of individual problems which arise during the shift. Observes workers to ensure compliance with standards. Responsible for appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees. Works with employees to maintain a safe work environment. Encourages employees to work in a safe manner and to seek improvement in work practices for their benefit. Develops and implements safety procedures and supports the department management in achieving departmental and plant safety goals. Assures the shift maintains quality standards and coordinates with QA inspectors to ensure adherence to customer quality standards. Ensures that product quality, production efficiencies and overall productivity meets or exceeds established standards and is directly responsible for allocation of personnel resources during each shift. Required to be technically proficient on all machinery in the department. Provides assistance to the employees in problem resolution and application of experience to new products and procedures to continually improve the process. Carries out daily inspection of machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization. Coordinates maintenance requirements to minimize operational impact. Compiles, stores and retrieves production data. Coordinates with other departments to meet production requirements and customer demands. Ensures that SQF standards are maintained. Assumes duties of Finishing Manager when absent.
