About Loretta Sayers Gavin
Love for the ocean, the beach, and nature. Bringing them all together in photos and beach finds. Many of my photos were taken with web design in mind. Several have open spaces to write your shop name or title for a beautiful one-of-a-kind banner. Please feel free to reach out for commercial license use.I started Sand Dollar Girl during the pandemic selling face masks, like so many. The pandemic changed our lives, and for me, for the better. What a great reminder to slow down. After moving from Santa Barbara/Ventura up to beautiful Humboldt County on the Northern California coast, I spent most every day walking our many beaches. A large number of Dendastar Excentricus sand dollar tests wash ashore here, especially after storms and earthquakes. It was a natural transition to move away from masks and into beach finds. I absolutely love sharing the beach with those who love it as much as I do. Of course, I couldn't help but take photos of our beautiful skies, the birds, and the beach as well. I took my first photography class in 1975. As a challenge to myself, I started with an old Kodak B/W camera and developed the film in the high school dark room. I was hooked!Many years later, I now shoot with a Sony a7rIV and develop in Lightroom. I still challenge myself to take the best shot while out in the field, instead of worrying about a lot of post-production. Most of my edits are very minor. So here we are in 2023 and I thought it was time to share all of my beach treasures, including my photography. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. My creative outlet is event planning, and it feeds my soul. The very first event I ever did was AMASS in Santa Barbara in 2010 and again in 2011. We closed two city blocks and invited artists to come paint the murals on Mason Street. The response was truly amazing. Artists from so many different mediums came to share their gifts. We had eight artists doing live paintings of the murals, five bands, poi and fire spinners, jewelry and clothing designers, an installation from Branches Mobile Gallery and plenty of food and fun. Each year I have been fortunate enough to add many other events to my repertoire. Last year my favorite event was a simple summer wedding at Big Sur. It went off without a hitch...well, except for one. Give me a call and let me assist you with your next big event.

Stateside Magazine was a mobile Art Gallery for local artists. For 2.5 years Stateside Magazine and Stateside Promotions created a monthly art magazines as well as promoted several local Santa Barbara events. AMASS (Artists Making a Street Scene) was our largest yearly event bringing in thousands of people to the downtown Mason Street art scene.This was an all day event with vendors, artists, musicians, fire spinners, food and beer. The main focus was to invite the public to come view artists in action as they painted the large murals on Mason Street. It was a great success and has been passed on to other promoters to continue each year.
