My husband and I bought tickets for a suborbital space flight on Virgin Galactic in 2005. We were among the first 100 to purchase flights and so are considered "Founder Astronauts." In 2010 my husband was hired as the CEO of Virgin Galactic and so a lot of my activities are Galactic related these days.

Yuri's Night, the World Space Party held is in over 200 cities every year around April 12th, the day the first human launched into space. We provide career development support and leadership training as well as Gen Y engagement consulting to the space sector and are committed to making space cool and training the next generation of space leaders.

And the end of my time at HQ, I was accountable for Higher Education for Exploration Systems Mission Directorate. I helped launch an initiative to get money to students to do hands-on engineering design projects and space exploration internships that is currently being managed by the Space Grant Consortia.

I headed up the Special Operations team of the X PRIZE Foundation at the first SpaceShip1 space flight and at the X PRIZE winning flights in October, managing a team of 5-10 space interns who in turn were managing 10-20 volunteers. We handled everything from setting up Estes models, to supporting VIPs, to interfacing with the X PRIZE teams on specifications for thier rockets.

Spend two months at sea, did five submersible dives to the hydrothermal vent sites at Titanic depths, was one of the explorers/scientists featured in the IMAX documentary about the extreme life that live around the hydrothermal vents and how they might be an analogue for life on other planets (or moons!).

I worked with Dr Chris McKay on plant growth on an ameliorated Martian environment. I studied his concepts for how to terraform Mars (make it warmer and more Earth-like), grew lettuce in a simulated Mars soil and went to Haughton Crater in the Canadian Arctic with Dr. Pascal Lee to study plants that can grow in extreme conditions.

I worked with the M.D. Astronauts to evaluate healthcare related hardware for the International Space Station.
