The Board of Selectmen is an elected Board and derives its authority and responsibilities from the statutes of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Weekly meetings are held to address citizen relations, petitions and new business. They are also actively involved in the planning and presentations for the Annual Town Meeting and Special Town Meetings.The Board of Selectmen is considered the makers of policy of the Town government, except as otherwise directed by the Statutes or by the Town Charter. The Town Manager is responsible for ensuring that the boards, officers, and representatives of the Town comply with the policy determinations of the Selectmen.Each Selectmen is assigned one or more of the Town Boards and/or Committees whose meetings he/she attends and with those activities he/she maintains current information to be passed on to the Board of Selectmen. During her term, Ms. Becker’s boards and committees included: School Committee, Youth Services, Police and Fire Departments, Planning and Zoning, Merchant’s Association, Andover Chamber of Commerce, Merrimack Valley Chamber of Commerce.
