My expertise has been recognized in our industry by my involvement in the CHLIA committee that revised standardized Critical Illness definitions and by my participation in several industry executive committees. I was a major contributor to the chapter on Disability Insurance Underwriting in the 2008 Advocis Study Guide for those seeking their Registered Health Underwriter designation. I have been involved in multiple aspects of litigated policies: I have rescinded policies, represented the company in discoveries, mediations, and I have testified as the company representative. I have been responsible for overseeing litigated Living Benefit policies, working with Claims and our Legal area to identify strengths and challenges of litigated policies. I have set litigation reserves and partnered in developing litigation strategy and case settlements.

For over thirty years I have been a leader in the Canadian Living Benefits insurance industry. I started at Crown Life in 1981 as a Disability Insurance underwriter and I retired from Manulife in 2019 as a recognized problem-solver, focused on individual disability and critical insurance products. During my career I have had responsibility for developing underwriting (risk assessment) criteria, customer service, claims management, litigated Living Benefits, and have been a key player in product development and design.
