Dr. Lori Collins is the former Development of Regional Impact Coordinator for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (southwest district), and the former Co-Director of the Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies (AIST) at the University of South Florida. Along with her partner, Dr. Travis Doering, she is now leading an initiative at the USF Libraries called the Digital Heritage and Humanities Collections (DHHC). This position builds on her decades of experience with terrestrial laser scanning and the 3D industry, with a focus on heritage preservation research and on working to change the way libraries interface with patrons using virtual and digital tools and strategies for learning and sharing. She is a Research Associate Professor and archaeologist who specializes in applications for heritage preservation using terrestrial laser scanning, aerial LiDAR, GPS, GIS, and other spatial data capture and visualization techniques- including rapid prototyping and 3D printing. She teaches courses in Digital Museums and the use of technologies for documentation and analysis, and has extensive experience with heritage projects around the world. Current grants and research involve digital heritage and collection building, and include a five year award to document our nation's space history at Cape Canaveral, numerous awards from the National Park Service to create digital records of National Park treasures, active research in Mexico documenting fragile rock art and monuments from the Formative Period, work in Armenia documenting World Heritage monastic wonders, and numerous grants, projects, and collaboration with the Florida Park Service and Florida State Agencies. Libraries can transform the way we teach, learn, and engage, and bringing digital tools to bear on projects that are the basis for creating online and virtual collections and e-learning opportunities are transforming how we view the traditional role of academic research libraries.

Dr. Lori Collins is the Co-Director of the Alliance for Integrated Spatial Technologies (AIST), a core facility at the University of South Florida. She is a Research Assistant Professor and archaeologist who specializes in applications with terrestrial laser scanning, aerial LiDAR, GPS, and GIS and other spatial data capture and visualization techniques including rapid prototyping and 3D printing. She teaches courses in use of technologies for documentation and analysis and has extensive experience with TLS uses and applications.
