I had the honor of providing leadership, guidance, and support to the many passionate, resourceful Lilly colleagues around the world who are trusted to deliver meaningful and understandable health communications that give patients the very best chance to benefit from our innovative medicines. Health Literacy is the evidence-based strategy we use for communicating effectively with patients at every point of contact. From a grassroots beginning to an enterprise-wide capability, created Lilly's HL Strategic Framework, Lilly's 8 Health Literacy Principles, HL Center of Expertise, Health Literacy Hub for employees worldwide, 3-module employee HL training series, an interactive Scoring Tool, Plain Language Thesaurus, and an innovative HL Research Lab for qualitative testing of content with patients from the intended audience.Within clinical research, supported teams working on Informed Consent, eConsent, Clinical Trial Diversity, Risk Profiles, & Plain Language Summaries. Played a pivotal role in the rapid improvement of enrollment for the Covid-19 Antibody Treatment trial focused on nursing home residents and staff. That experience provided evidence of the value of HL in all trial communications and spawned the creation of a CT-dedicated in-house Patient Communication & HL Capabilities team. Partner with commercial on Patient Support Programs, consumer brand digital & print materials, FDA-required Consumer Brief Summaries for print ads, and multi-media disease-state patient education resources. Integrate insights on inclusive communication, health equity, and patient engagement threats and opportunities in the external environment gained through representing Lilly externally as a HL expert at various industry conferences & patient-focused forums. Collaborate with A&PR colleagues to provide 'beyond the pill' support to customers and partners by sharing strategies and resources to build Organizational Health Literacy capabilities within their own organizations.

Created non-branded, non-promotional patient education disease state materials aligned with health literacy principles. By providing the foundational knowledge and skills that create an informed patient, these programs were designed to engage, educate and empower patients to be active in the management of their own health care. Also created a series of patient-centered provider workshops for payer customers on the topics of Motivational Interviewing, Chronic Disease & Patient Engagement, and Health Literacy & Clear Communication.
