For almost 14 years I worked for Cerner Corporation. I interviewed with Cerner through UMKC. They offered me the opportunity to come work for them even before I graduated in May, 1990. I began in their Quality Assurance Department where I tested software and installed software patches. I worked in their Data Center and was hands on with Hardware and firmware upgrades. I later moved to the Immediate Response Center (IRC) which is a 911 for Hospitals and Labs to call if they are having a computer issue. The IRC was a fast paced environment and required critical thinking. I became a Team Leader of one of the 4 rotating shifts. I stayed in this position for 5 years. Later, I worked in System Engineering where I worked in the Service Center, Through my position in System Engineering, I was able to become the System Manager of all of Classic. I maintained the hardware and software and kept the Classic Model running smoothly for all of the users. I left Cerner to pursue my dream of owning and operating a Tea Room.
