Lori Marchand has assumed the role of Managing Director, Indigenous Theatre at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. As a member of the Syilx (Okanagan) First Nation, Lori is extremely proud of the role she has been able to play in the development and production of First Nations work throughout her professional career in theatre. Now, alongside Artistic Director Kevin Loring, she is committed to nurturing, developing, producing and presenting Indigenous work on the national stage and throughout the country. For 19 seasons, Lori was the administrative leader at Western Canada Theatre in Kamloops where she contributed to the success of the Southern Interior’s largest professional theatre company. She also served on the BC Arts Council from 2010-2017. On the Council, she served as chair of the strategic planning committee, the programming committee and as vice-chair. Thompson Rivers University acknowledged Lori's above contributions, conferring an Honorary Doctorate of Letters in 2018, and in 2021, the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres presented her with the Mallory Gilbert Award for excellence in managerial leadership in Canadian Theatre.Since graduating from UBC with a degree in English Literature, Lori has enjoyed the opportunity to work in a wide variety of fields, including as an Officer with the Ontario Human Rights Commission and as Executive Director of the Ontario Native Women's Association. She is a proud mother of three daughters and still makes time to be an active volunteer with the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres and in her local community, primarily in the areas of soccer and rugby.
