Lori McElroy has a background spanning environmental engineering, architecture and design and has been active in the sustainability, energy and environmental field for the last 25 years both in practice and in education. Before joining BRE to head up Energy Performance and Research in Scotland, Lori spent six years at Architecture and Design Scotland as Head of Sustainability. Prior to this she was responsible for the Sust. Programme at The Lighthouse, Scotland's Centre for Architecture Design and the City for five years. She previously spent 15 years at the University of Strathclyde, where she directed the DTi’s Energy Design Advice Scheme in Scotland, and a follow on technology transfer initiative, the Scottish Energy Systems Group. Lori has acted as principal investigator on numerous European and Scottish Executive funded research projects and has published extensively on sustainability, energy and environmental issues in building design. Lori is President of the International Building Performance Simulation Association, Chair of the Existing Homes Alliance Scotland. She is a Past-Chair of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) in Scotland, and is the Past-Chair of Molendinar Park Housing Association.She was awarded an MBE in 2012 for services to sustainable construction.
