Lori Pfeiler has served her community for over 25 years. Elected to the Council of the City of Escondido in 1992, she continued her service as Mayor there for three terms. During her time as Mayor, Lori was known to bring people and organizations together: "It is about giving residents a chance to be successful. If everyone is at the table and respected we will have better outcomes."She has been widely praised for her regional leadership, especially for her expertise in transportation and housing issues, serving as Chair of the San Diego Association of Governments and as Associate Vice President of the Regional Vision Initiative, where she directed the process to create a 100-year strategic action plan encompassing the shared values and priorities of all residents of the San Diego region. Lori was instrumental in shepherding the agency through a major consolidation.Lori leads the San Diego affiliate of Habitat for Humanity which builds and repairs homes in partnership with families earning less than the area median income, providing life changing homeownership opportunities to families in need of improved housing. Under Lori’s leadership since 2012, San Diego Habitat for Humanity serves more families than ever before. Incorporating home repair and revitalization of entire neighborhoods has created a renewed pride of homeownership, and has facilitated a more connected and involved community. Lori Pfeiler believes life is like mountain biking: "If you focus on the rock you will run right into it, if you keep your head up and look at the bigger picture, you will have a better idea of where you are going."
