Accountable for the operational direction and leadership management of a multi-campus Cancer Center providing care across the Kansas City metropolitan area, serving 1200+ patient visits per day in both clinics and infusion centers. Locations include Bloch Cancer Center Pavilion in Westwood, KS, and community locations in Lee’s Summit, North Kansas City, Kansas City, Fairway, Overland Park, and Olathe. The University of Kansas Cancer Center is one of only 53 nationally designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers by the National Cancer Institute (NCI), a part of the National Institutes of Health and one of only 39 centers nationally to offer proton therapy. As part of an academic health system, offering opportunities to participate in clinical trials and continuum of support services for the oncology patient. Utilizing skillset and diverse experience to develop nursing leaders, implement and manage clinical workflow improvements, and drive project management initiatives in the outpatient setting. Rigorous focus on quality, patient safety, performance improvement utilizing LEAN methodologies/tools, and patient/provider/team engagement strategies. Contributions while at The University of Kansas Cancer Center include successful development of new clinical processes and workflow/productivity analysis, while maintaining a strong focus on relationship building, recruitment and retention, and provider efficiencies. Detailed analysis of revenue cycle workflow, with optimizations to charge capture in Radiation Oncology procedures.

Operational direction and leadership management of Critical Care areas in a 451 bed licensed independent community hospital, encompassing a 42 bed Emergency Department with 72K visits annually, Neuro Trauma Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs, Critical Care Float Pool, STAT Team, and Level 2 Trauma Program. Utilizing communication skills and experience to promote and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders: physicians, clinical teams, administrators, and Medical Staff office, while leading structural development for Trauma and Stroke programs. Led successful completion of Level 2 Trauma Program re-certification in April 2019 (5 year cycle). Strong support and mentoring of new Stroke Program Manager, with successful initial designation of Level 2 Stroke Center designation by the state of Missouri. Focus on recruitment and retention efforts for Critical Care areas, including GN events, nursing school outreach, development of Critical Care Nursing Fellows program, and reduction strategies for agency expense and special pay practices. Standardization of staffing plan for all three ICUs and intensive work on productivity targets with normalization for 2020 budget year. Productive collaboration with financial services team to provide education and support to critical care nursing directors throughout annual budget process. Focused quality improvement initiatives include fall reduction strategies in the Emergency Department, blood transfusion documentation hospital-wide, equipment cleaning, and pre-treating/transport of soiled instruments to Sterile Processing Department. Additional efforts to support regulatory readiness include accountability with Nursing Directors on audits/tracer activities, medication reconciliation policy revision, and critical care titration protocols.

Extensive acute care experience leading nursing and ancillary teams, with particular emphasis on growth and onboarding of leaders. Management with multiple expansion and new construction projects and service line growth and development. Proven history of building/ strengthening physician and provider relationships across multiple specialties including cardiology and surgery. Decisive operational leader with strong knowledge of budgeting process, human resources/ employee management, productivity and quality metrics and regulatory standards.

Responsible for supervising team of 10-12 employees per shift in a busy 16 bed Intensive Care Unit. Patient populations included cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgery, trauma, multi-system failure, sepsis, and a variety of other medical patient populations.

Responsible for case management of 18-20 chronic renal disease patients, providing weekly outpatient dialysis treatments, medication reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with Medicare requirements for ESRD program.
