As a member of the Employer Healthcare Strategy team, Lori is responsible for ensuring the successful delivery of Consortium hosted events. This includes contributing to content development, managing cross-workstream interdependences; ensuring program goals align and support departmental and corporate objectives, as well as timeline and budget commitments. Consortium Health Plans is an independent company that focuses exclusively on its member/owner Blue Cross Blue Shield Plans’ national account growth efforts. Of the 28 million national account members covered by BCBS Plans, nearly 25 million hail from Consortium’s 20 member Plans.

My focus as one of 5 National Account Sales Executives was to manage Group Disability, Life, & Accident sales activities for employer groups with 10,000 or more lives in the Midwest. The main consultants I worked with were Marsh, Mercer, and Hewitt. My specialization was on a holistic approach to absence management, and I was seen as an expert in the disability category. It was exciting to work on larger complex companies where I could add value. I was able to build relationships, hone my consultative selling skills, and make compelling client presentations. I sold the largest occupational/non-occupational disability account with CIGNA. My expertise led me to be Top 5 in sales throughout the country, averaging annual sales of $13 million.

As a Sales Rep, I built relationships with brokers and managed sales for Group Disability, Life and Dental products to middle-market companies in Chicago. The company culture made the job even more enjoyable by creating a close bond across team members. The manager led by example and was a role model who taught me about the industry, products and how to close a sale. I learned how to clearly assess the client’s needs and manage my time appropriately.I was the first female sales representative hired by Confederation Life. To assimilate into the culture, I learned how to play golf. An unexpected benefit to the job!

At Beaven, I was rapidly promoted to a newly created sales position in the individual insurance market. Part of the role was to educate general agents on the products I sold which included “Individual and Second to Die” policies. I was able to build and maintain relationships with agents throughout the east coast. I enjoyed having a flexible schedule and traveling as needed to the east coast. Having started my career here in the Forms department, this sales position promotion changed the trajectory of my entire career.
