Lori Conlan is a Director of Postdoc Services, Oite at National Institutes of Health. She possess expertise in public speaking, strategic planning, program management, government, non profits and 12 more skills. Colleagues describe her as "Strengths: consensus building, reframing, reliability, networking, adaptability, intrinsic motivation I have worked extensively with Lori through the Science Alliance at the New York Academy of Sciences. In fall of 2007, Lori, Natalie Cox from Columbia University's Office of Postdoctoral Affairs and I developed and organized "What Can You Be With A PhD?: A Career and Technology Focused Career Convention". The two-day event involved over 65 panelists on 14 career panels and over 1000 attendees. While a first time event Lori, Lori brought many skills and personal attributes to the team that made the project a big success. Her personal network of professionals is deep and her willingness to share her contacts greatly contributed to securing the high-quality of speakers and participants in the event. Her ability to build consensus assisted in working through disagreements we had on the organizing committee and building the coalition of event sponsors. In the early stages of planning, when we were tossing around ideas for programming, her ability to reframe contemporary issues affecting the sciences and young scientists led to the inclusion of topics and reorganization of the program which were well received by participants. Finally, while from previous experience I had some idea of the work that an event of this magnitude would take, with just three people handling the vast majority of the planning and execution of the event, Lori's reliability and ability to not only keep herself motivated but Natalie and I as well during the 8 months of planning and preparation demonstrated a high level of emotional intelligence on her part. Overall, I would hope to have the opportunity to work with Lori on this event and other projects in the future as she brings a high level of professionalism and set of skills to the task at hand."
