Teaching Professional - A-6 - Golf InstructorDruids Glen Golf Course May 2004 - Apr 2014Covington, WaI was a teaching professional at Druids Glen for years. I was a sought after golf instructor because of the effort I put into each lesson for each student. I wanted all my students to feel cared about. When you are my student, the improvement of your golf game was very important me and I wanted to give you 110% of not only my skill but of myself. I wanted each of my students to enjoy the lesson, learn a ton and fall in love with the game of golf! If my students did not enjoy their lesson or improve, it was my policy to refund their money. Through all my years of teaching, I have never had to refund a lesson! I use video equipment to help my students truly understand their golf swings and how they can duplicate the motion. I want someone leaving the lesson understanding why their movement is important. Understanding and teaching the muscle mechanics of the golf swing was an important part of my teaching for the beginner as well as for the low handicapper. I also focused on nutrition and a healthy lifestyle during my lessons. My desire is to empower my students to not only become the best golfer they can be but also the healthiest!Teaching is fun! Watching people enjoy their lesson is priceless!

Teaching Professional - A-6 - Golf InstructorMeadow Park Golf Course Jan 2004 - Jul 2004Tacoma, WaI really enjoy teaching the game of golf. I taught at Meadow Park during their heavy season. Through out my career I have taught thousand and ran hundreds of clinics and group lessons. I enjoy using video to support the student with visual input so they can learn faster. Helping other improve their game is what PGA Professionals steve for!Making golf relevant and supporting a healthier lifestyle is important to me. Incorporating nutrition with their golf game supports the golfer in better performance. Making sure people have good fuel in there bodies before and after the round is important. Just as important is putting healthy fuel/food into you bodies after your round is also important. My website supports the golfer to make educated choices with their nutritional needs.Meadow Park Golf Course was fun and I really enjoyed working with the local area. -
Assistant Golf Professional - A-8Meadow Park Golf Course Jul 2002 - Jan 2004Tacoma, WaI was honored to be the Assistant Golf Professional at Meadow Park Golf Course for a little over 2 years. I was responsible for tournament operation, pro shop operations, teaching and supporting the head professional with whatever was needed for good customer experiences. I enjoyed spending time with the members and setting up the pro shop for the day to day operations! What better profession than to be around like minded people with like minded hearts! Golf, it doesn't get any better than that! LOL -

Head Professional - A-2Tacoma Firs Golf Center Jun 1999 - Jun 2000Tacoma, WaI helped open Tacoma Firs Golf Center in June of 1999. I had so much fun being part of this opening! I had a chance to help with laying the artificial turf, lasering the distance for the flags, ordering signage, creating the teaching material, setting up the pro shop, organizing the facility, hiring the golf professionals, pricing the clubs and meeting new customers. What a fun time!!!!I was the head professional in charge of the teaching staff for our customers. I supported them in what ever they needed. I taught thousands of students and loved it! We use a video system and had fun with the students. We developed lesson packages, stated clinics and made fun evening events for families to come and enjoy the facility. We also had a putt putt course! If that isn't fun I don't know what is!

Head Professional / General Manager - A-1Classic Golf & Country Club Nov 1996 - Jan 1999Spanaway, WaI started at the Classic Golf & Country Club before the course was open. I helped open the course and started as the Pro Shop Manager in September, 1993. I ran the Pro Shop for 1 year and then was asked to become their Non-Member (PGA) Head Professional for over a year. After passing my PGA Education and players ability test, I was asked to be the Class A-1 PGA Head Professional & General Manager of the Classic G&CC. I held this position for over 4 years. As the Head Pro / GM, I was responsible for the entire operations from the budget, greens crew, food and beverage, cart attendants, pro shop staff, tournament operations, marketing and customer relations. Non-Member Head ProfessionalClassic Golf & Country Club Dec 1994 - Oct 1996Spanaway, WaI became the Non-Memeber Head Professional at the Classic Golf & Country Club after being asked to become their head pro and I was at that time, not a member of the PGA. I was very excited to be asked! What an honor to think that I, as a woman, could become a PGA of America Member! Realizing this dream (which I thought was unachievable for a woman at that time) helped me continue to set my dreams high. I love to challenge and empower my students (especially the youth) to dream big and go for their dreams. I consider it an honor to be part of my students life journey even in the short time I have them for lessons!I worked hard, studied hard, played, practiced to develop my skills to become a PGA Member! At the Classic, I was also in charge of the operations of the entire course at the same time as working hard towards my membership! Long days and long nights were a way of life! My newly found passion to become a member consumed my mind! I was determined to pass all of my tests and earn that honor! I did it!!!! November 1st of 1996 I was inducted into the PGA of America!!!!

Pro Shop ManagerClassic Golf & Country Club Sep 1993 - Dec 1994Spanaway, WaI started at the Classic Golf & Country Club before the course was open. I helped open the course and started as the Pro Shop Manager in September, 1993. I ran the Pro Shop for 1 year and then was asked to become their Non-Member (PGA) Head Professional for over a year.I was responsible for all pro shop operations from opening the course in the mornings to closing the corse in the evenings. I was in charge of the staff for the pro shop, cart attendants, course rangers and starters. I ran the merchandising and purchasing for the pro shop. I also was responsible for the marketing of the golf course. I set up clinics and member tournaments. We held hundreds of tournaments at the golf course which was my favorite part of the job! I loved the details of the tournaments. Making the customer feel welcome and special was important to me. I love putting their names on the golf carts and set up the carts so when they arrived, they had tees, scorecard and towels all ready for them to enjoy. I loved to fill out the hand written score sheets so when they saw their names written in calligraphy, they felt valuable and important to us! I had the cart attendants unload their clubs from their cars and load them on their golf carts if they pulled in front of the pro shop. Tournament operations were a gas!!!

Pro Shop Assistant ManagerHigh Cedar Golf & Country Club Jan 1991 - Sep 1993Sumner, WaDo you ever fall in love with something so fast that you don't know how it happened? I used to hate the game of golf when my family wanted to go play. I could not believe a sport would take over 5 hours to play... LOL Now I know! When I got the bug - I used to go down to the High Cedars driving range and hit balls for hours. I had a job that gave me a lot of time to kill so I went to the driving range and just hit balls. I used to play fast pitch (softball) and could hit the ball a long ways but I would take a step each time I hit it. There was a professional at the end of the range that came over and said "do you mind if I give you a few tips? You can hit the ball a ton but let's try and control where it goes." His name was Dave Leon, PGA Golf Professional. From that day on, I was hooked. Back to the job, I hit so many balls there I would write a check at the beginning of the practice session and fill in the amount after I finished. I did not know how many buckets I would go through. the pro shop manager said, "Lorie, you will save money if you work for me in the pro shop. You will get free range balls." WHAT? Who doesn't want free range balls, right???? That was the start of my profession! Saving money on range balls. Do you feel happy when you get free range balls? My job description was basically the same as at the Classic Golf Course when I was the Pro Shop Manager there. I will let you read it up there...
