About Lorien Carter
I am a strategic maximizer and activator, according to Strengths Quest (IYKYK). I like to take things from good to great (maximizer) and I want to do it fast (activator) but I don’t believe in change for change sake (strategic) so I’m always asking “what’s the problem we’re trying to solve?” and “what will be appreciably better if we do this thing?", and, “how will we know?” Students, and my consulting clients, will tell you that I teach them to ask and answer these questions too.In my faculty role, I am always adapting my course content to be even better and since I have a healthy dose of input in my collection of strengths, I have a vast resource repository to draw on. In my administrative roles, I get excited about evidence-based and innovative approaches to everything from program assessment to new student orientation. When I’m providing instructional coaching to my colleagues, I’m always researching (and then sharing) pedagogical resources while also listening for what makes them excited about teaching and helping them tap into that energy source. With my consulting hat on, I dream big about how organizations can provide client-need driven programs and then I help them move from a dream to a detailed reality - complete with goals, objectives, activities, evaluation plans and financial plans. As a Professor of Practice, I am expected to keep at least a few toes and maybe a whole foot in professional practice while keeping my other foot firmly planted in my full-time faculty appointment. My significant training and facilitation experience is what allows these two feet to dance! Need a workshop or workshop series on adolescent development, the adult learner model, group facilitation, logic models, conflict management, self-care practices, evidence-based practice, trauma-informed practices or professional team and culture building? I’m sure I have a few toes available for that!Looking for guidance with organizational strategy, curriculum writing, program planning, implementation, and evaluation? Well, that might take a whole foot but because I am a certified Strategic Doing (TM) workshop leader, I can guide loosely connected coalitions, open networks, and teams to take strategic action and achieve measurable impact much more quickly than with a traditional strategic planning model.Want to hear about me from someone else, or from several someone elses? Check out my LinkedIn recommendations! I’m honored that these folks, who know me in a bunch of different contexts, were willing to share their insights about learning and working with me.
