Chief Job Search Strategist / Resume Writer / Veteran Advocate / Military Skills Translator
CurrentWe are a customer-focused company that provides job search marketing tools (resumes, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles) and interview and job search counseling. You can find more information about our services and our process at www.getresultsresumes.com.➟ JOB SEARCH STRATEGY: The job search is strategic marketing: identify your target customer/employer, determine what needs and problems you can resolve for them and create a compelling marketing plan that speaks directly to those needs. I’ve worked with people from all industries from blue collar employees to C-level executives. Today’s job search MUST be a multi-pronged, assertive approach. In addition to a resume, you must have an engaging social media presence and networking strategy. I assist customers to define and communicate their unique VALUE PROPOSITION.➟ VETERAN EMPLOYMENT ADVOCACY: Veterans – I SPEAK YOUR LANGUAGE! I understand your performance reports. I help you see the relevant skills as you transition from the military to a completely new career field. I started volunteering in 2005, educating veterans about resumes. I provided training and counseling for thousands of veterans – from every branch of the military – as a volunteer facilitator and resume reviewer. I am constantly seeking opportunities to serve those of you who have served with my knowledge. ➟ TRAINING FACILITATION AND CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT: Job searching skills are not the most scintillating of subjects. Training programs in these subjects can be quite dry and boring! I use a dynamic, personable training style that appeals to all learning types. I have a lot of passion for and knowledge in these subjects and I make them fun and relatable to everyone. Students leave my training sessions feeling motivated and ready for success.I facilitate workshops for groups of 5-200. I create customized curriculum and have delivered programs for several cities and multiple educational institutions.
Podcast Host
CurrentTune in weekly while I interview veterans who have made their transition out of the military into private sector or federal employment, entrepreneurship or stay-at-home parent. They will share with you the lessons they learned from the surprises they encountered, the surprises and stumbles they had along the way. In addition, each month I will speak with a veteran who is in the process of their transition to answer their questions and provide advice and guidance to veterans who are preparing for or are in the midst of their own transition. If you are interested in telling your story as a veteran who has already transitioned or asking your questions as a veteran who is in transition, please email us at ll4v@nextforvets.com.
Veteran Employment Advocate
CurrentProviding support, education and community to veterans in their last year in the military as they prepare to embark on the next chapter of their career.
Military Transition Assistance Program Facilitator
I had been volunteering as a Transition Assistance Program facilitator at Luke AFB since 2005. When I found out that the program was going to a contractor in 2013 I applied for the position. Although I didn’t NEED a job, I didn’t want to stop serving veterans through education and information. I went on to teach 42 TAP sessions to classes that ranged in size from 10 to 65 participants each.➟ I launched the program at Luke AFB and rolled out several curriculum revisions during my tenure. I suggested and led the facilitation of a dedicated course – Senior TAP – that was targeted towards officers, senior enlisted and retirees. No matter my audience, I always focused on advocating for veterans and helping them understand their marketability as they embarked on a new career phase. ➟ My class was often compared to drinking from a firehose. I have a ton of knowledge and passion regarding this subject matter and I wanted my students to leave INFORMED! I spent three intense information-packed days offering transitioning service members insight into all aspects of navigating their job search. Topics included career development, job search tactics, military skills translation, private sector and federal resume writing and interviewing.➟ Admittedly, job searching, resume writing and gaining federal employment are not the most exciting subjects in the world. However, I was constantly commended by my students for my engaging, motivational teaching style that incorporated real-world stories, humor and detailed information.
Job Search Skills Training Specialist
As part of the One-Stop Career Center, which was then called Maricopa Workforce Connections, I taught two daily three-hour classes for displaced workers of various backgrounds – from blue collar to executives – in multiple job search subjects including resume writing, interviewing techniques, labor market research, professional communication and networking. The curriculum was woefully outdated and I was asked to participate in the process of developing, updating and modifying comprehensive job search curriculum and training program materials that were used throughout all Maricopa Workforce Connections facilities. The research that went into creating new curriculum only enhanced and deepened my knowledge in these subject areas. In addition to group training programs, I provided one-on-one counseling and resume critique feedback to customers to assist them in streamlining their job search and improving their success rates.
Vocational Instructor
They say everything happens for a reason. I discovered I was not cut out for teaching high school. However, almost as an afterthought, I was assigned the career development class. This was my introduction to teaching strategic job search skills and I found that I loved it!In this role, I educated high school seniors on career development and exploration. By administering personality assessments, skills identifiers and self-appraisals, I was able to aid students in defining their best career path and identifying their future job goals. We spent extensive time on learning key job search skills such as resume writing, interview techniques and labor market research. I gave these students the knowledge and ability they needed to succeed in the workplace as they neared the end of their high school career.
