Lorne has more than 40 years of aviation experience. After studying physics and meteorology at Melbourne University, he left to take up a flying career. In 1990 he established JetCity as a new venture.In 1993, a stretcher was fitted to the companies first Learjet, and so began Australia’s first dedicated Jet Air Ambulance service.Lorne has extensive experience in general aviation, aviation consulting and airline operations, having spent eight years with Ansett Australia flying the A-320. He holds an Airline Transport Pilots Licence and has Checking and Training approvals on many different aircraft types. He is also licensed to fly helicopters.Prior to founding JetCity he operated the company flight department for Interwest Hotels Limited, and was Aviation Adviser to Crawford Productions for the television series ‘The Flying Doctors’Lorne was the Chief Pilot of Jet City, and in this capacity, he was involved in the import and export of many aircraft, including their Australian certification and registration. His many years of experience have established a vast network of business contacts that may be called upon when client requirements dictate. A regular delegate at aero-medical and business aviation conferences around the world, he stays abreast with the latest techniques and procedures in use by other organisations. The current theatre of operations for the aeromedical fleet includes Australia, the Pacific Islands, South East Asia, and the Middle East.Lorne founded Turbojet Engineering several years ago, where he works with Travis Stephens in the design, testing, certification and manufacture of several STCs (Supplementary Type Certificates) for Learjet and Citation aircraft. Lorne’s aircraft supports some of Australia’s busiest hospitals, and also local and overseas insurance companies in the repatriation of injured Australians while abroad.Other interests include farming, wine collecting, and classic cars.A father of two girls aged 27 and 30, he chairs the Lowther Hall School Foundation, and is active on the board of Directors providing governance advice and fostering his strong belief in education and philanthropy.
