Perform case reviews to identify issues with quality of care and implement improvements. Serve as Chairman of Professional Advisory Committee. Provide medical education to the homecare staff and medical providers to expand their knowledge.

Perform reviews of neurology cases and examinations of physicians upon request of the State of California.

Surveyed over 50 hospitals in Northern and Southern California for compliance with Joint Commission medical staff and performance improvement standards, and for compliance with state licensing regulations.

LOS ROBLES HOSPITAL & MEDICAL CENTER, THOUSAND OAKS, CA 2011 – 2013 PRESIDENT OF THE MEDICAL STAFF/CHAIR OF MEDICAL EXECUTIVE COMMITTEEProvided leadership to 700+ physicians, ensuring patient–centered, quality care, within the organization. Developed programs to facilitate communication and exchange of information between physicians, hospital administration, and leadership team. Counseled physicians individually to encourage physician education and well-being. Improved medical record completions by creating a program that replaced physician suspensions with a fine system, decreasing incomplete records from 43% to 14% of open records.  Assisted with the creation of a Physician Orientation Manual for incoming physician training. Represented medical staff in the Joint Commission top Performing Hospital on Key Quality Measures. Led physician participation in patient safety (hospital awarded Leapfrog ‘A’ rating for patient safety). Managed the $225K+ budget for the Medical Staff Association (nonprofit). Significantly increased physician involvement in activities, processes and leadership activities.  Participated in initiating Stroke Certification and its subsequent American Heart Association’s Get with the Guidelines Stroke Gold Plus Quality Achievement Award. Collaborated with CEO and Board Chairman to plan Board of Trustees and general staff meetings.

Assisted in the development of an inpatient rehabilitation service for head injuries and stroke.

Served as Chairman of the Bioethics and Utilization Committees. Wrote brain death criteria. Reviewed and resolved many difficult management cases including conflicts of supportive care, vegetative states, and comfort measures. Developed utilization guidelines, resulting in reduced length of stay from 9 to less than 5 days.  Served as a member of the Medical Executive Committee and consultant to the CEO for all staff affairs. Conducted over 250 EEG (electroencephalography) studies yearly with 15% increased revenues.

Transitioned 30 clients from the State Hospital to community housing.  Assisted in establishing living quarters, education, and activities, along with medical monitoring.
