About Lorraine A. Padden, M.A.

Becoming a professional ballet dancer was a lifelong goal. As it turns out, it was just the beginning. The 10,000 hours of practice it takes for dancers, musicians, poets, writers, and other artists to ultimately carve a niche in others’ imaginations—no matter how long or fleeting—requires a relentless pursuit of excellence. Similarly, I find many of the leaders and organizations I work with to be equally ambitious, but occasionally blocked by budget and staffing scarcity, mission drift, and personal burnout. As a consultant, artist, coach, volunteer, grant writer, and adjudicator, I help them overcome those organizational roadblocks by clearing the cross-disciplinary hurdles that frequently distract nonprofit leaders from fulfilling their organizations’ core missions. The overarching need boils down to the same creativity and precision with which a skilled performer balances technical excellence and big picture vision.In-house and consulting engagements include:- creating and producing artistic, educational and fundraising events- recruiting and managing board members, volunteers, and supporters- collaborating with other artists to present accessible interactive programs- designing educational programming and audience enrichment strategies - conducting audience conversations, curating symposia, and giving lectures- coaching and mentoring life-work balance and personal fulfillment- authoring critical reviews, grant proposals, essays, and poems- evaluating artists, artistic content, and live performances- advising grant-making and adjudication processes From helping reinforce the billion-dollar-plus endowments for the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton, and Brown universities—to developing support resources for some of the hardest-working, underfunded nonprofits—I’ve committed my life to serving innovators, social advocates, and change makers draw on the practiced experience of someone who has been there before. From time to time, I coach leaders in identifying the underlying motivations or issues they deal with interpersonally, surfacing the questions they need to answer in order to gain clarity and a renewed sense of focus and direction. I also help them build core competencies to fuel and sustain their vision.A lifelong student of inquiry and adventure, I’ve been privileged to live, work, and perform on three continents, ranging from facilitations in Mexico and South Africa, to international live-study and residencies across Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
