I organically grew a Uniform & Promotional Company that I went on to Successfully sell!I was a 17 year old girl working in a family owned clothing store. The local Fire Chief came in one afternoon to make a purchase. After the transaction was complete, he quietly walked over and picked up a pair of navy twill pants along with a navy polo and laid them on the counter, he laid them side by side and said here are our new Uniforms. With a confused look on my face and this tall man in his full uniform looking at me; I said pardon me we do not sell uniforms. His answer shaped my future, he said Now You Do. I said how do I decorate them? He said that is up to you to figure out. Then he just left me there all alone to figure it out. I immediately picked up the phone and called the Chicago McCormick Place and asked if there were going to be any uniform shows anytime soon? The nice lady on the phone said as a matter of fact there is going to be one here in 3 weeks. The excited 17 year old said how do I attend? Her answer was you purchase a 3 day badge for $ 84.00, which I did without hesitation. I attended all 3 days all by myself, I had no clue what I was looking at but I kept looking. As I did I had this vision of this tall uniformed man in front of me that for some reason believed in me and seen something in me I did not even know existed. After 3 days of walking the floor I realized I knew how to make patches. I left there and with such excitement I immediately went to the Firehouse to share my news. His reply was you have the Job. I was at a loss for words, which does not happen often. At that moment the Entrepreneur in me was born! To say I was Passion driven is putting it mildly, I Loved every Hardworking second of it! I want to take my experiences both good and bad and help other business owners to fully understand the value of the business they have each worked so hard to develop.
