Lothar Hackethal was born in Bochum, part of the industrial heart of Germany at the time, in 1965. He spent most of his childhood in the border triangle of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany and graduated in Aachen, where he successfully dropped out of economics studies in 1986. After two years as an apprentice in a tiny advertising agency he began to read German and English at Aachen’s University of Technology.His first comedy sketches were broadcasted on Belgian Public Radio and “RIAS Berlin” (Radio in the American Sector) in 1982. After a few years as a student assistant with the “WDR” (German public radio) and freelance for several private Belgian stations he joined “RTL radio” (Luxembourgian broadcasting network for Germany) as radio-host and comedy-editor.In 1994 he moved to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and started writing as a freelance comedy-editor for a German radio network. Besides he made his living working as an announcer for radio commercials before he started his career as a copywriter in several advertising agencies in Hamburg, Frankfurt and Munich in 1998.Within the past 20 years he has had the pleasure to write for dozens of different brands reaching from baby food to liquor and from fashion wear to fast food. Among them: Müller Milch (dairy products), Jägermeister, Nestlé, Renault, Ferrero, Microsoft, BMW and – above all – McDonald’s.He has traveled the US numerous times ever since he was 14 and visited the Hawaiian Islands twice. The latter lead to his addiction to Aloha shirts.The militant optimist and passionate hypochondriac tends towards euphoric melancholy, enjoys cultivating exotic plants and likes to talk about himself in the third person in bios.
