This work focused on using sequencing techniques (454 sequencing) to determine the human gut microbiota and to use cultivation methods to search for probiotic lactobacilli in human feces.

The EU-project PathOrganic focuses on the risk for contamination of organically grown vegetables with enteric human pathogens. My work consisted of farmer contacts, translation of and performing questionnaires, sampling of vegetables, chemical analyses of manure and detection of pathogens by PCR and real-time PCR.

PhD education in microbiology. This work focused on microbial interactions, environmental impacts of genetic modifications of bacteria and microorganisms that may promote the growth of plants. These impacts were mainly evaluated by using molecular techniques such as marker genes, fluorescent proteins, PCR and T-RFLP. PhD thesis title: “Fates and impacts of the genetically modified plant growth promoting bacterium Pseudomonas fluorescens SBW25 – under controlled and field conditions.”
