I coordinate various programmes in the fields of Health and WASH that are supported through 3FM Serious Request and MFSII; reporting, monitoring, finances, etc. The projects that fall under these programmes are implemented in 17 different countries.

I worked in the Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Centre at NATO HQ. The EADRCC coordinates disaster relief efforts among NATO member and partner countries. My daily tasks were:- Drafting reports, letters, and press briefings- Organizing of a lessons learned conference with all partner countries- Being a member of the ad hoc working group on high visibility events- Coordinating humanitarian assistance, at the moment with regard to Syrian refugees- Advising of senior officials- Participating in exercises, for instance concerning CBRN incidents

The Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (READI) has the objective to present policy options and assist in building foundations for the ASEAN community in non-trade areas by sharing knowledge and experience between the regulatory systems of EU and ASEAN and establishing greater transparency and understanding between the two regions. My task is to provide research, liaison and administrative support to the disaster management component of READI. More specific:- The development of a Monitoring and Evaluation system for AADMER- Writing of a comparative study of EU and ASEAN disaster management arrangements - Organizing of a visit of EU officials to the ASEAN Secretariat and the AHA Centre

I provided administrative and logistical support to the Monitoring and Information Centre. The Emergency Response Unit offers background information on disasters, analyses crisis situations, coordinates the request and delivery of assistance, leads the deployment of European missions and of European experts participating in UN operations. Specific tasks:- Duty officer at the Monitoring and Information Centre- Monitoring worldwide emergencies and early warning systems- Providing support to civil protection missions and EU disaster response operations to various countries, among which the Republic of the Congo, the Union of the Comoros and the Republic of Turkey- Composing of a daily ECHO information product containing the latest news in the field of Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection- Assisting at lessons learnt meetings- Assisting in the organization of training sessions on the European Common Emergency Communication and Information System- Organizing of the EU-ASEAN Disaster Management Knowledge Exchange

The most important job of the Situation Centre is to monitor and report on developments affecting United Nations peacekeeping missions. Furthermore, the unit provides a 24-hour communication link between senior decision-makers at UN Headquarters, field missions, humanitarian organizations, and member states. Thirdly, it prepares assessments and analytical products for the senior management. Specific tasks:- Organizing briefings for member states and other departments of the UN during which the latest developments regarding the peacekeeping missions and their places of deployment were discussed- Conducting research on Somalia, the DRC, Côte d'Ivoire, Afghanistan, Haiti, and the Middle East region.- Writing of reports, among others, the security section of a monthly briefing note on the situation in Somalia- Tracking the news and monitoring the developments in places were UN peacekeeping missions were currently situated or could be deployed- Updating UN websites and databases

Rusinga Island, Kenya

I went to Kenya to take part in an intercultural work camp of a local non-governmental organization. The aim was to improve the educational possibilities for children between three and eight years old on a small island in lake Victoria. I really learned to be flexible and positive during my time in Kenya. The result of seeing those children come to school every day and having fun, made it an extremely rewarding experience. Specific tasks:- Administration of the school- Teaching, primarily English- Contact with the parents of the students- Organizing social activities for the children of the island- Organizing debates with the local population about the various challenges that they have to face every day, one of them being HIV/AIDS
