The brain and mind have always fascinated me - to understand “why?”. In short, this led me to study psychology at university, which only served to deepen my love and interest in this very question…EDUCATION My passion for psychology enabled me to love studying it, thus allowing me to achieve the most and best I could. Through many successful individual and group projects, I not only achieved a First Class degree, but I was also given the Undergraduate BPS award for consistently achieving the highest grades in my class. Besides learning theoretical insight into mental health and it’s application to healthcare settings, university equipped me with many valuable skills. For instance, I developed and demonstrated great team working and communicational/ interpersonal skills, not only through being in many cohesive and successful group projects, but also through my commended role as Psychology course representative. Additionally, I developed very proficient IT (Windows and SPSS) skills and report writing skills, as demonstrated though my quantitative final year (lab report) project, in which I achieved a grade of a high first in. PROFESSIONALA combination of my fascination with psychology and (specifically) the brain, and working with and helping those in need, motivates me to want to work (as a psychologist) with people presenting mental health issues or brain injury. I’m naturally a very level-headed, logical, and empathetic person, which I believe are essential attributes to work effectively within a clinical setting. Also, I have a strong interest in the research side of psychology, where I believe that my organisational and critical thinking skills, as well as my ever-growing hunger to learn would be easily applicable. My current job as a support worker for Autistic individuals, also presenting with Learning difficulties and other comorbid conditions, requires me to think creatively, flexibly, and with a person-centred approach (e.g. to combat challenging behaviours). I used this approach to put forward support plans for clients to reduce challenging behaviours, and thus promoting general well-being amongst the clients. This job has improved my problem solving skills and given me good patience to support clients. This job has also made me more observant (and analytical) of clients’ (and general human) behaviour, to see if a clients needs are being met. Working with Autistic individuals has enhanced and solidified my intrigue in mental health, and served to make me more eager to learn about/work with a variety of neurodiverse individuals.
