This 6 month placement provided me with the knowledge and skills to present papers and findings whilst critically evaluating scientific literature and delving deep into the topics that interest me. This has involved: Creating and implementing a wellness and training load monitoring system for the South African National women’s… Show more This 6 month placement provided me with the knowledge and skills to present papers and findings whilst critically evaluating scientific literature and delving deep into the topics that interest me. I had the opportunity to work on my own paper and work with athletes and stakeholders, solving real-world problems in data collection, processing, and analysis. This has involved: Creating and implementing a wellness and training load monitoring system for the South African National women’s football team; coding and analyzing Rugby tackles within matches to provide data for World Rugby and guide their implementation of new regulations in the sport; and I am currently working on my own research of how rugby tackles are portrayed on social media. A highlight for me has been assisting in a study with Cape Town City FC, collecting sleep and training load data, this being a topic of interest for me, as well as a favorite sport of mine. Experiencing these sporting environments has been invaluable and very insightful in how I can go on to apply the knowledge I have gained. In addition, I had the opportunity to volunteer with a student-led medical organization, involved with prescribing exercise as medicine to children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
