Let me tell you a little about myself...As an initial matter...I am always looking for meaningful connections and fostering relationships, but if you are trying to solicit services, I am not interested. Seriously...I am not interested!Now that is out of the way...I'm an ideas guy! I love conceptualizing ways converging technology can be used to solve real-world problems. I'm talking about nasty problems like...racism, implicit bias, wealth gaps, education disparities, global warming, and blighted communities---in essence, many things that impact marginalized people. I love to write and speak about intersections of technology, creativity, design, business, and the human experience. I think design thinking is cool... but as a framework for change and "innovation," too often perpetuates the ideals and norms of the status quo. This is why I lean more toward Universal+Inclusive Design. Design can solve any problem. I also believe most problems we have are by design...¯\_(ツ)_/¯Equality is also important, but equity is essential. My name is Louis Byrd. I've set out to build a world where equity is the norm by leveraging technology, design, creativity, and fearlessness.If you believe in the whole left/right brain theory, then I have equal portions of both and a whole lot of heart in what I do! But the way I see it, regardless if you're more analytical or conceptual, they both derive from one space...creativity. In the beginning, I focused on multimedia content, then along the way, I became the go-to for local Ad agencies to help craft stories that appeal to "urban...very specifically, black audiences". That got old after a while and I saw the holes in the system...so I shifted gears and focused on cross-cultural brand strategy. Under the cross-cultural brand strategy, I became very versed in diversity and inclusion and believed in the concept of cultural competence. I tried educating companies on the importance of that and leveraging the essence of a company's brand to spread the belief internally and externally. While I had some success, by and large, most companies were simply not ready to make the necessary changes to fully support a culturally competent business and mindset. So I said...f#ck that, after nearly four years of working the concept.Then I got back to focusing purely on creating brand content. While I love creating and telling stories...I loathe working with clients in that capacity and became burnt out. And that is when I closed the doors to Mellie Blue.That said, I learned a lot over the years. From time to time I will do some brand and business consulting.
