Cook Design is a consultancy I created to take my work in user incentives research, message targeting, visual storytelling and my passion for ecological restoration to a broader audience. Clients like The Philadelphia Water Department, Fairmount Water Works, Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, and TTF Watershed Partnership have provided extensive experience making complex environmental issues and massive infrastructure projects easy to understand for the average citizen.

Most of my work for PWD included studying engineering plans for big water, sewer, stormwater & green infrastructure projects, then interviewing the planners and engineers who created them so that I could make a simple graphical version readable to Philadelphia’s most vulnerable citizens. This kind of diagramming explains the purpose of a project, it’s footprint during and after construction and what affect it will have on the surrounding neighborhood, city and ecosystem. It allows folks who may not read so well or would be intimidated by complex hundred-layer autocad plans to understand the project well enough to participate in public meetings during early design phases; to have their concerns heard so they have a meaningful opportunity to influence the final design and it’s impact on their lives. I have also found and capitalized on low-effort opportunities within PWD’s existing work to educate the public about local watershed stewardship- a lesser known part of PWD’s mission. The most significant of these projects is a collection of seven "stormdrain markers" I proposed- small round signs in the streetscape- that tell pedestrians which of Philadelphias seven streams the water collected in these inlets flow into.

As a team angler, I promoted Dynamite Baits in the US market through strategic product placement and representation at events, advertising, outreach, and writing articles for outdoor magazines.

The Tyler Alumni Association Board are the stewards of the Tyler School of Art community. As president I led strategic planning of outreach and events with the help of the board and our liaisons in Temple's arts development office. The most notable of our events are Victory for Tyler, a biannual alumni show at Crane Arts; the Beaux Arts Ball, a costume-optional fundraiser last held at Globe Dye Works; and the Art Market at Tyler, an annual art sale that won grant funding from Temple University in 2012.

AIO courses operated much like an online discussion forum. I created a complete mobile office infrastructure to take full advantage of the unique possibilities of this venue. I've taught The History and Analysis of Design, Intro to Adobe Creative Suite, and Digital Illustration while on the beach in Maui, camping by Lac De Madine in France, and wherever else I wanted to go.

Working directly under owner and master craftsman, Justin Bender, I learned and practiced many aspects of carpentry ranging from tactical demolition in fine homes to custom furniture building. As the first person to hold this newly created position, I had the opportunity to define most of it's responsibilities. My primary intention was using technology to streamline workflow and procedure within the school to save time and money. This was usually achieved by adapting communications with the most financial burden and/or time sensitivity to the web. I designed, managed, and maintained anything relative to web communications such as blast emails, website architecture, and graphics, always according to the specific needs of the appropriate user groups.

The Carp Anglers Group is a recognized 501c3 non-profit dedicated to promotion of carp fishing as a fun past time in North America. Membership includes subscription to a quarterly magazine and participation in events held in many locations across the US, Canada, Mexico, and online. During my presidency, the group had over 1000 dues-paying members. I managed CAG's website and branding which at the time was excellent, created policy used by a large volunteer staff, balanced a tight budget- keeping a high quality print magazine in the black with advertising revenue, and built sustainable income streams through popular low-effort events such as the original CAG Big 4.

In this role I tested and promoted Pallatrax "Stonze System" non toxic fishing weights and accessories in the US market. In 2008 Stonze won best new product at ICast, the worlds biggest fishing trade show.

At Lehigh I wrote the course for and taught The History of Design.

In the Penn Biology Lab I provided user experience and human factors advice to a research group creating a product for the first time. This included a lot of physiological research; creation of technical illustrations, CAD models and prototypes for related grant funded projects- one of which was featured in National Geographic:
