One of my favorite quotes is from the 2005 movie Robots where the character Bigweld says "See a need, fill a need." Throughout my career as a software engineer, this has remained with me. It is essential for technology to solve useful problems, not for the sake of the problem or technology but to truly meet a customer need.To name a few needs filled. - I have used existing computer vision to develop pipelines for recognizing people on the tennis court to help create a machine that could react to player position, increasing a pro's ability to teach and train athletes. - I have used machine learning to teach computers to recognize a good potato from a bad potato, helping customer reduce the need for direct inspection. - I have used technology to automate workflows and generate deployable code, increasing dev team performance. - I have integrated with various hardware sensor sdk's such as cameras to retrieve necessary decision makingThese are but few examples of my experiences working on small teams with various startups to fill a need. In all this I fundamentally believe that technology must be applied to solve a costumer need, and be adaptable enough through Agile practices to evolve with and meet those changing customer needs.
