Profile bio

About Louise Hedley

I am an experienced primary school teacher with over 18 years of experience teaching in EYFS, KS1 and KS2. Throughout this time I have successfully lead teams, managed a core curriculum subject and supported colleagues to achieve the best possible outcomes for the children. Leading change has been a challenge I have taken on. I have provided professional development to teachers and used instructional coaching to influence change. I have lead many staff training sessions within school, implementing whole school strategies that have then needed continual monitoring and feedback to the staffing team. I have also worked on a 1:1 basis with teachers and other staff to implement supported changes into their practice. Strategies I have found particularly supportive for this have been modelling, breaking changes down into small manageable steps, beginning with the evidence and ensuring ‘buy in’ from individuals. The NQP in Lead Teaching (NPQLT) I completed earlier this year helped me strengthened my knowledge, skills and concepts of what underpins successful leadership in teaching. I understand that it takes time for changes in practice to be lasting. I also recognise that empathy and respect are an indispensable skill of diplomatic leadership. For implementation of change to be effective, it must be recognised as a process. All decision must be evidence informed and take into considerations the wider context of the school/child. To improve a child’s experiences and outcomes, a clear implementation plan must be drawn up and staff must be well supported in delivering this. However, change efforts are unlikely to be successful without the support and ‘buy-in’ of staff. The most effective changes I have led, have involved strong communication though discussion, motivating staff and providing affirmations and reinforcement all the way through. I believe working collaboratively is one of my key strengths. Effective engagement with stakeholders opens up channels for communication and collaboration, tapping into a powerful network of support, and resources. However, it is important to accept that not everyone has the same viewpoint. When I have dealt the differences of opinion, I have learnt that listening and showing respect is of upmost importance, acknowledging and validating their concerns, even if I don't agree with them.Throughout the years I have worked as a professional teacher in a school, I have always upheld all policies. Throughout my career I have worked alongside a range of professionals to best support the children’s individual needs.
