A native of Maine, it took me awhile to find my calling. A dream prompted me to use my nutrition degree (BS Cornell) to help American Indians, and I found my first professional job with the Navajo Nation WIC Program in Arizona and New Mexico. After my promotion to Nutrition Coordinator, I realized I needed more education, but I continued to work with Indians during my Masters work (Univ. of AZ) and my dietetic internship (Univ. of NM). My extensive experience in Native communities includes WIC Nutritionist, focus groups, lifestyle coaching, nutrition and diabetes education, home visits, consulting, case management, professional and paraprofessional staff training, motivational interviewing, cooking classes, small group facilitation, project management and grant writing.I returned home in 2013 and was pleased to lead the National Diabetes Prevention Program for a few years at Central Maine Healthcare. Now I'm excited to start something new - supporting Diabetes Self-Management Education and Support Program and the Nation Diabetes Prevention Program at the State level.
