As part of the Advanced Materials applications team I worked on dispersion of various carbon types in both aqueous and solvent-based systems for applications including batteries.Lead a global group to develop a company wide dispersant test method.Improved business to business communication by training global sales representatives.Identified an unmet market need and have contributed towards solving this problem.Gained new leadership skills by supervising interns and helping them to reach more of their potential.Equipment used includes Turbiscan, TGA, rheometer, particle sizers and homogenisers.

As part of the Industrial Chemicals applications team I worked on dispersion of ceramic particles including titanium dioxide, and rheology modifiers in both aqueous and solvent-based systems for applications including catalyst washcoats and sensors.Improved customer formulations through the use of additives to increase the solids content or to reduce the viscosity for ease of handling.Liaised between customers and production to ensure a workable specification for both parties.Identified and attended training courses, building knowledge and an external network.Gained in-depth knowledge on printing techniques by attending the printing school at the WCPC in Swansea.Gained leadership skills through supervision of an intern.Improved my communication skills through presentations to customers, sales representatives and within R&D.Gained in-depth battery knowledge by attending the battery school at the WMG at Warwick University.Improved communication with customers through aiding in the design of a new dispersant selection tool.Equipment used included rheometer, turbiscan, particle sizers, bead mill and homogenisers.

As part of the Industrial Chemicals applications team I worked on dispersion of ceramic particles and rheology modifiers in both aqueous and solvent-based systems for applications including conductive pastes.Improved marketing impact by generating dispersant data for product data sheets.Improved laboratory capabilities by aiding in the purchasing and installation of a bead mill, rheometer and Turbiscan, and have provided in-house trainings on these.Equipment used included a rheometer, Turbiscan, particle size analysers, TGA, bead mill, homogenisers.

United Kingdom

I was a member of the Geo Technologies Applications team working on mining emulsifiers for emulsion explosives, demulsifiers for oil and gas and asphaltene dispersants.Improved the department capabilities by setting up an electrical stability meter with a repeatable test method, and training others in the use of it.Assisted sales personnel with technical questions from customers in a timely manner encouraging better communication with external contacts.Generated interest in the department by giving lab tours to members of the graduate scheme, encouraging more people to apply for my position for the following rotation.Co-ordinated a buddy scheme for new members of the graduate scheme.Encouraged children to choose science by running a foaming experiment at a science fair.Equipment used included a viscometer, interfacial tensiometer, microscope and a homogeniser.

Worked on acrylic polymer rheology modifiers for mainly personal care, but also homecare applications.Increased product interest by developing formulations for use at cosmetics exhibitions.Helped to persuade investors by explaining acrylic polymers in a manner which they could easily understand.Set up a collaborative unified ageing system meaning that anyone in the department was capable of doing the ageing whenever required.Created an equipment inventory to ensure that all pieces of equipment were properly maintained minimising maintenance costs and downtime.Solved issues with tracking progress of development samples by creating an inventory containing sample details, location and testing information.Trained my replacement before moving departments on all relevant pieces of equipment and test methods ensuring projects were not hindered by the staff change.Trained other laboratory staff on the rheometer enabling more use of this expensive piece of equipment and proper handling was conveyed minimising troubles.Learned to work as a team in stressful situations at a graduate outdoor residential program in January.Equipment used included a viscometer, rheometer, particle sizer.

Achiltibuie, Scotland

Worked as part of a team in all areas of the hotel, Michelin star restaurant and bar. I had close customer interactions when working as a front of house the hotel, as a waitress in the restaurant or in the bar. I gained knowledge of cheese and was able to present this to customers when serving from the cheese trolley. I was able to cope in high stress environments and worked efficiently when housekeeping or as a kitchen porter.

Worked as part of a team to deliver a fine dining experience to customers. Also worked at many functions including weddings, birthday parties and conferences. Other roles such as kitchen porter and housekeeping were undertaken when required.
