LR’s Energy business is now Vysus Group, a standalone engineering and technical consultancy offering specialist asset performance, risk management and project management expertise across complex industrial assets, energy assets (oil and gas, nuclear, renewables), the energy transition and rail infrastructure.

Initially joined Lloyd’s Register Consulting on a fixed contract to support delivery of a significant offshore project in Qatar, specifically:Conducted an Escape and Evacuation Risk Analysis (EERA) and Emergency System Survivability Assessment (ESSA).Contributed to and peer reviewed the Quantitative Risk Assessment (QRA), which included the development of a Blowout Study, Frequency Assessment and TR Impairment Assessment.In addition to this offshore project, also facilitated a design stage HAZID Study on behalf of Lloyd’s Register EMEA for the LNG Fuel System on an Inland Waterway (IWW) tanker, produced offshore and marine Safety Cases for various facilities and vessels.

Main responsibilities: Project and resource management, ensuring technical projects are delivered to agreed schedules, budget and customer satisfaction.Active role in business development to identify and develop opportunities with, and generate proposals for, existing and new clients. Workshop facilitator.Key experience: Project managed the development of the offshore Safety Case and supporting suite of safety studies for two new-build not permanently attended gas platforms. Project managed the development of the offshore Safety Case and supporting suite of safety studies for new-build and refurbished accommodation vessels to be operated within both the UK and Danish waters.Coordinated Safety Case Thorough Reviews for a number of offshore fixed and floating assets, and prepared the Summary Report on behalf of companies such as Petrofac, Prosafe and Centrica. Coordinated and prepared safety studies for fixed and floating offshore assets including hazard identification, fire and explosion hazard assessment, marine and mechanical hazard assessment, QRA, EERA, ESSA and ALARP demonstration reports.Conducted welfare assessments in order to ensure that all factors had been considered prior to installing additional living accommodation or modifying existing accommodation on fixed production platforms. Facilitated diving risk assessment workshops to ensure the duty holder fully understood the major hazards in relation to diving, and to assess the effectiveness of their safety management system in managing diving activities within their fields.Undertook a quantitative assessment to demonstrate that the probability of successfully shutting-in and evacuating a new-build platform in the event of an abnormal iceberg event met design code requirements.

Provided technical capability in the undertaking of quantitative risk assessments, production of safety cases and general safety support. Project examples:Perenco, UK - Conducted a quantified risk assessment for the safety case update of Bacton terminal including a review of domino events with neighbouring facilities.Perenco, UK – Performed a safety review in support of the removal or otherwise of under-floor insulation installed below an offshore platform control room.

Provided technical capability for safety and risk management services in the oil and gas industry. Involved at all stages of the project life cycle from writing proposals, securing contracts and project delivery. Project examples:KPO, Karachaganak – THESIS HAZID Team Leader on-site in Kazakhstan and technical author for a HAZID, addressing gas extraction and processing plants onshore. RepsolYPF, Trinidad & Tobago – THESIS HAZID facilitator for the TSP offshore block and conducted a qualitative risk assessment of their high and medium risk ranked hazards. Total, Nigeria – Team leader conducting a hazard identification study to examine all the major hazards and the key systems to mitigate these hazards, for the operation of the offshore AKPO FPSO/field development. This involved facilitating a number of workshops in Paris with representatives from the different project disciplines thereby gaining a representative overview of the risks.

Internal transfer to the Engineering Analysis business unit. Worked on structural integrity management issues for the oil and gas industry as part of the Engineering Analysis Team.Project examples:BG Group Tunisia – Fitness for service assessment of the amine stripper towers with known localised areas of internal metal loss. National Grid – Asset life review and revalidation project for UK onshore transmission pipelines. Performed deterministic and probabilistic fatigue assessments for ageing pipelines. National Grid – Fitness for purpose assessments of natural gas storage vessels for various UK sites, i.e. Eastbourne.

Initially started as a Graduate on the BG Group 2-year Graduate Development Programme, joining the Engineering Services Team. Conducted numerous high-pressure pipeline specific risk assessments addressing the individual and societal risk associated with a natural gas release.
