About Louise Beveridge
I am interested in applying interdisciplinary and systems approaches to issues of conservation and sustainability, which I teach at the University of Edinburgh. Drawing on political and social sciences, I like asking questions about how environmental decision-making can be inclusive, innovative, and equal; from local to global scales. My PhD was about climate change, food security and participatory development. I applied both quantitative and qualitative approaches to understand problems through a broad systems perspective. I explored how local people's knowledge, experience and stories (access via interviews, ethnography, and life histories) can be better integrated with top-down protocols for data collection, intervention design and monitoring at a broad scale (surveys, spatial analysis).
Listed skills include Laboratory, Sustainability, Ecology, Research, and 8 others.

We also carried out fieldwork in Kluane National Park where we set up a common garden experiment to study the phenotypic limitations on.
Field Researcher
We studied the dynamics of light and carbon acquisition by vegetation at a site on the North Slope, Alaska. Field work consisted of measuring the composition of Arctic Shrub species and plant traits at range of scales from leaf to canopy, for example productivity (via gas exchange using Licor), reflectance (NDVI), Leaf area index (LAI), leaf mass area (LMA).
Laboratory Technician
In a lab studying epigenetic control of plant development using the model plant Arabidopsis thaliana. Duties included seed propagation, growing plants, seed harvesting, DNA extraction, gel electrophoresis.
Field Assistant
During this period I worked part time including 2 summer seasons measuring plant traits, productivity via gas exchange and related indicators, at a long term climate change experiment on grassland in Buxton, UK.
