Co-leading partnership strategy, research, and communications for an initiative poised to integrate a new topic for responsible minerals sourcing into established and emerging sustainability frameworks and reporting standards. The OECD Due Diligence Guidance for Responsible Supply Chains of Minerals from Conflict-Affected and High-Risk Areas is our first focus. We will seek to make connections with RMI, IRMA, SBTN, TCFD and TFND, among others, in future. Part of my role involves designing and facilitating a multi-stakeholder dialogue involving IKEA, Roca Group, Mercedes Benz, Intel, and Holcim among other downstream enterprises and mineral producers, in collaboration with the OECD Centre for Responsible Business Conduct.

Delivering a tailored 8-week accompaniment designed to empower the Chief Sustainability Officer with knowledge and support to craft and communicate the next chapter in Gilbane Building Company’s sustainability story.

Advised on state-of-the-art developments for transformative strategy and initiative design, implementation and measurement in the context of the Foundation’s Young Africa Works and Impact strategies. This work supported the development of the Pan-African Program framework and accompanying Impact framework to define pathways to transformation.

Co-lead on a Citizen Action Lab design for an EU Horizon project on citizen participation in local energy transitions in 4 communes on Geneva's rive gauche (lac-arve region) at the Department of Sociology. I also lead the design of the project results monitoring and reporting framework to evaluate and ensure intended impact for Geneva activities. The DIALOGUES project is co-producing a grounded understanding of energy citizenship and how citizens engage in collective action in local energy transitions across 9 European countries.

Conducted a rapid review of existing international funding arrangements for addressing plastic pollution, including international programmes, multilateral funds, development banks and private sector initiatives for the Intergovernmental negotiating committee to developan international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment, first session (INC1).

Contributed to the international review team by conducting an employee survey, external partner survey and a semi-structured peer conversation series using the 3-horizons framework asking key questions about the past, present and possible futures for the organisation.

Conducted a core support project to develop targeted action by TransformEval-Geneva, an initiative of the SDG Transformations Forum to strengthen evaluation as a field of work, mode of inquiry and mental framing that can support and accelerate essential systems changes and transformations in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. I joined this collective to design and deliver a series of dialogues to elicit evaluator views and experiences with the intersection of transformation and evaluation, and develop communications materials

Managed partnerships and research for the Global Sand Observatory Initiative. This role involved designing a policy research agenda, developing networks and brokering partnerships, as well as coordinating stakeholder outreach and communications. One of the most interesting collaborations was a scoping study on Ore Sand with the University of Queensland and Vale International.

Co-lead this innovation project on WEF nexus risk assessment & governance at WWF International and then the UNESCO Chair of Hydropolitics with Prof Christian Bréthaut.

Delivered a series of 3-month workshops that produced sustainability innovation projects that responded to current and projected needs of International Geneva.

External thought partner and concept note lead for the Voices for Just Climate Action initiative's theory of systemic change and partnership development, which catalysed EUR55 million in funding for this breakthrough initiative. In this period, I also assisted the WWF Dam Removal Europe project team in a partnership review as part of a new 10-year strategy process which spurred the Arcadia Dam Removal Fund.

I managed the CHF3 million research programme, with five direct reports and multiple internal and external partnerships and an internal evaluation process, towards the wind-down of the first phase of the institute's strategy.

Brokered 5 knowledge-to-action partnerships in Indonesia, Cambodia, Colombia and China on natural capital & ecosystem services assessment for landscape outcomes. We advanced new ways to make science-based case for investing in biodiversity conservation.

Established a Green Economy Programme to strengthen the incentives for environmental stewardship in the Greater Mekong Subregion in 2012. I executed this programme by delivering training and science-based advocacy for landscape investments across the Lower Mekong Countries

Coordinated economic research related to economic development case for investing in improved chemicals management policy. Generated guidance on economic instruments for financing public activities on chemicals management. Provided technical support on the development of guidance on legal and institutional infrastructure for integrated chemicals management and organizing international meetings, developing and facilitating workshops in developing countries on the above topics. I liaised regularly with the BRS convention secretariats while they were merging during this time and conducting supporting research for mercury issues in the development of the Minamata process

Cost Benefit Analysis of the Basel Convention to support finance mobilisation for the implementation of the Convention at national levels

I conducted economic incentives research in support of multistakeholder roundtables, symposia and network development under topics including fisheries management, fisheries subsidies reform and financing for biodiversity conservation. My role involved preparing briefs for UNEP senior management on a regular basis.

Innovated on contingent valuation techniques to evaluate social and environmental costs imposed on communities living with locally undesirable land use changes from landfill and incinerator development in 4 place-based studies. The guiding question was should we, and could we ever, adequately compensate local communities for carrying the burden of infrastructure that benefits the whole of society? When I originally carried out this research, I thought the problem was citizen protest activities that were holding up the realisation of critical infrastructure for sound waste and chemicals management. More than 15 years later, I think the problem lies more with missing mechanisms for addressing questions of environmental cost and benefit distribution, equity and injustice over scales of geography and time.
