Practice includes representing federal and state government and private sector employees in all aspects of trial and appellate employment litigation in the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and federal courts and before administrative agencies and arbitral tribunals. Draft and file a variety of motions, responses, briefs, and pleadings, such as appellate briefs, motions for summary judgment, oppositions to motions for summary judgment and motions to dismiss, complaints, pretrial statements, mediation statements, and oppositions to motions in limine. Researched and analyzed issues under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”), including whether health care providers may legally retain medical service discounts in light of their fiduciary duties. Reviewed evidence, prepared an expert witness for direct examination, presented settlement recommendation, and conducted settlement negotiations under attorney supervision. Wrote a summary judgment motion to uphold a penalty determination for violations of ERISA’s reporting and disclosure provisions. Compiled evidence of bias for use in litigation by reviewing court treatment of the testimony of doctors retained by health plan administrators. Listened to hearings, studied case files and drafted orders, including a rental housing case final order finding that Tenant failed to meet his burden of proof in demonstrating claims of retaliation, improper rent increase and diminished services. Researched and drafted memoranda on whether an additional hearing was necessary to comply with a remand order from the D.C. Court of Appeals. Drafted an order denying a motion to subpoena witnesses, researched court performance measures and analyzed a statutory construction issued of first impression under the D.C. Litter Control Administration Act.

Researched and drafted memoranda on issue of first impression relating to joint employer coverage under state wage payment statute. Analyzed the merits of a circuit split over how to calculate damages under Federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act. Researched foreclosure tort claims and drafted complaint for wrongful foreclosure. Researched and analyzed the legislative history of a state statute authorizing the presence of visitors and government officials in migrant labor camps. In Spanish, conducted client intakes and interviews and prepared clients for administrative hearings. Oversaw legal outreach programs for migrant farmworkers.

Tutored underprivileged children under the No Child Left Behind Act. Created curriculum and lesson plans to creatively solve individual needs.
