Starks Consulting works for central government, local government and charities delivering research and evaluation studies to help shape better policy design and programme implementation. We work on behalf of disadvantaged or disaffected young people, parents and families across many sectors including local authority children's services, safeguarding professions, schools and the voluntary and community sector. We have worked with charities in support of children who run away from home, and who are at risk from gang-related violence. We have just completed a piece of research for a local charity working with families suffering from domestic violence. We have developed particular research skills working with young people and believe in the power of research in shaping public policy. Louise Starks completed a Masters in Research Methods at Leeds University. She studied under Ray Pawson who taught students to adopt a Realistic Evaluation approach to research where the findings of outcomes are best understood in context. This has advantages to policymakers as it provides specific instruction on what works and in what circumstances, so demonstrating the conditions which need to be apparent for a programme or intervention to work.
