Sometime in 1995 I suggested to Larry Orman the idea of starting a non-profit GIS (Geographic Information Systems) studio to serve other non-profits. At the time Larry was executive director of Greenbelt Alliance, and I was doing computer graphics as a volunteer for the organization. My task was to make publishable a set of early computer-generated maps that were almost illegible. We realized all manner of environmental and other nonprofit groups needed to solve this problem. Flash forward to the present: GreenInfo has been operating for fifteen years with Larry as executive director. The organization has a staff of twelve, and has served hundreds of clients. I'm on the board and do special projects in cartography. A number of my maps have been published in Bay Nature Magazine; other clients include Monterey Pine Forest Watch and the Sierra Conservancy.

I was co-principal of American Teleconferencing Services (ATS), founded and led by visionary Robert Cowan. The company was a pioneer in low-cost, high-service telephone conferencing. In 13 years ATS grew from 3 employees to 450. In 1997 it was acquired by Premiere Global Services, which continues to offer audioconferencing as part of an e-meeting suite that also includes web conferencing.
