There are three things I do very well:Incident Response/Incident Management - I've been doing this for more than a decade now in one form or another, and I've taught hundreds of professionals how to do it as well (see below). I've handled countless Business Email Compromise cases, stymied ransomware deployments, gone toe-to-toe with at least four APTs, and spared my clients millions of dollars in losses and expenses. I'm also often called in to audit the work of other responders, whether during postmortems or as a component of either long-term remediation or litigation. My team at MorganFranklin Cyber does everything from case management down to IOC discovery and back up to reporting and remediation.Analysis of Emerging Technology - Among the few things that made it out of NSA pre-publication was that I built the Emerging Technology Risk Prioritization Framework (ETRPF) for an office specializing in emerging and anticipatory technologies. I've spent my career looking at what's going to happen next and helping decision makers prepare for it. On the topic of AI, I've gone from a crackpot to a dreamer to a technologist to a skeptic to a FUD-spreading hater, and I've done all of that without ever changing my opinion.Communication - In addition to the dozens, if not hundreds, of technical documents I publish each year (threat bulletins, analytic memos, landscape briefs, etc.), I also help client boards make budgeting decisions by providing them with key high-level insights, provide company wide-training on everything from ransomware to MFA to Cozy Bear, and deliver in-depth technical presentations to engineers and front-line workers. I've taught technical courses for Mandiant, Arctic Wolf, and the NSA. Several of my courses have even been included in the premium offerings of sites like Cybrary and Udemy, and I've contributed to university courses around the world. In my spare time, I publish tabletop games and LARPs, and run events for hundreds of people at conventions across the United States.
