M1 Widening J25-J28 Scheme - Value £324 million Scott Wilson was employed by the Highway Agency as the employer’s agent for the M1 Widening between Junction 25 and 28 Scheme. The scheme proposals were to widen the M1 motorway from 3 to 4 lanes in each direction to provide additional capacity and reduce congestion. Responsibilities were to technical check the contractor/designer submissions to make sure they comply with the contract specification and to monitor the construction works.

URS were employed by the Highways Agency as the employer’s agent for this A46 Dual Carriageway Improvement Scheme. The scheme proposals were to construct 7.5km of dual carriageway between Newark and Lincoln. As an Assistant Site Engineer, my role was to monitor and to check the designer submissions for the scheme and to make sure that the mandatory requirements set out within the contract documents were implemented

In August 2000 I joined WSP Civils as a graduate Civil Engineer working within Area 16 of the Highways Agency Motorway & Trunk Road Network. This was my opportunity to take my career into Highway Design and throughout my 2 year employment with WSP I gained a good understanding and experience of highway design schemes.
