In my first of three one-year rotations within the FTL program, I served as the genomics and molecular/synthetic biology expert within the Personalized Healthcare (PHC) group of the Health Solutions Business Unit. Through systems integration and predictive analytics, we leveraged genomic and clinical data to improve healthcare and health policy on individual and population levels. The PHC group is leading the transition of healthcare from one that is generalized and reactive to one that is patient-specific and preventative.I wore many hats within the Personalized Healthcare group. In addition to developing machine learning models to predict disease and patient outcomes, I also performed business development and capture tasks, such as customer and partner engagement and proposal development. I also worked closely with Northrop Grumman's Chief Medical Officer on medical initiatives, internal company reviews, and university outreach. As leadership and team building roles, I organized the Health Business Unit's attendance and technical demos at the 2016 HIMSS conference in Las Vegas, NV. Lastly, I collaborated closely with the manager of technology and chief solutions architect to design technical solutions for personalized healthcare.

As a Biomedical Engineering PhD student in the Gersbach Lab, I engineered light-inducible systems that can regulate genes in both space and time in living cells for applications in tissue engineering, gene-based therapies, synthetic biology, and basic scientific research. Using custom-designed light-inducible zinc finger proteins and CRISPR/dCas9 effectors, I patterned the differentiation of cells into muscle in vitro and vascular tissue in vivo using a mouse dorsal window chamber model.
