FLIK - Female Laboratory of Innovative Knowledge - is a community hub for female founders/leaders and apprentices to connect. Founders can take on apprentices in a meaningful project in their business, and help them gain valuable skills. Apprentices train alongside female founders and leaders to prepare themselves to be the next wave of change-making entrepreneurs. Together, we are taking action to advance women’s entrepreneurship, globally.

At Syndee I have had the quintessential startup experience of wearing many hats - I have worked to define our product offering, built revenue projections based on advertising revenues for our Serviceable Obtainable Market and developed our project runway. I have leveraged my background in behavioural neuroscience into recommendations for the UX, and I am currently building web scrapers in Python and learning cypher to populate a graph database using Neo4j.

As the project coordinator for the Procurement of the New St. Paul's Hospital - a $2.2 billion dollar capital project to build a health care campus in downtown Vancouver, B.C. - I was responsible for ensuring the correct protocols were maintained during the bid process, and responsible for developing and maintaining our digital archives. I worked with our legal counsel, Fairness Advisor, VP's and directors to ensure the procurement was run in a fair and confidential manner.In my final year with the team I worked on two projects which were mandatory in order to reach Financial Close with our Proponent, PCL.1. I worked with our Chief Project Lead, the Provincial Risk Management Branch, and our insurance brokers to organize placement of $1.7 billion of course of construction and wrap up insurance for the project. Insurance placement is a contractual obligation necessary to reach Financial Close.2. I was the project manager for the Project Summary Report, for submission to the Ministry of Health and Treasury Board. The report summarizes all of the variances (financial, clinical, technical, and scope) between the approved Business Plan and the project as outlined in the final Project Agreement. I developed the schedule, work plan, and ran daily status meetings across multiple teams to coordinate inputs. I worked with our internal directors for clinical, equipment, technical, procurement, finance, our CFO; our external financial consultants and legal counsel; and representatives from the Ministry of Health.Treasury Board must approve the project as outlined in the Summary Report before the Health Authority can sign the Project Agreement and reach Financial Close.

• Finalized the Functional Program for submission to the Ministry of Health and Treasury Board, documenting the clinical departmental requirements to be achieved in the new St. Paul’s Hospital.• Collected current state data and modelled my findings against planned future spaces utilization. My work informed decision making on space requirements in the new hospital, and provided a platform for assigning workspaces to staff at a department, role, and individual level [Excel].• Trained new staff on data management protocols and migrated the office to the cloud [SmartSheet]• Designed cloud storage and data handover processes to increase transparency and traceability between project team and consultants

Bridging my undergraduate and graduate research I worked as a Research Assistant in my thesis advisor's lab. • In addition to continuing my research in environmental impacts on learning, I had the opportunity to collaborate on drug addiction research in an operant model with cocaine addicted animals.• I handled controlled substances, ensured the adequate disposal of biologically hazardous material for my lab, and improved my surgical and dissection skills, including canula placements, perfusions (gravity and pump), tissue preparation, cryostat slicing and slide preparation.• I utilized parametric and non-parametric statistical tests (ANOVA, chi-square test) to assess behavioural and cellular data.• I established a successful lab protocol to utilize a microscope-computer interface that enabled automated quantification of gene protein expression, thereby reducing the bias inherent to a manual count. Automation significantly reducing the task latency, which enabled more data to be collected and processed, and additional brain regions to be assessed.

• Handled personal confidential data, and created a database that enabled management coaches to access aggregate information about customers while maintaining the privacy of customer data for major clients (Earls).• Used web search to identify potential customers, and created and launched an email campaign using Constant Contact.• City planning – utilized the GIS data analysis software ArcExplorer to narrow down choices for new transportation lines in Surrey, BC.

As a Teaching Assistant for Psychology 100, I had the opportunity to teach and engage with students who were passionate about the subject - but I learnt the most from working with the students who didn't want to be there. Fostering interest is an immensely more challenging - and rewarding - task than leading a didactic class. When my students took the model of a brain they were supposed to use to identify major anatomical structures and turned it into a sculpture of a fish I knew they weren't engaging with the task. However, I also knew that come the final exam, every single one of them would remember that "brain-fish" - so I asked them to associate the anatomical regions of the brain with those of their "brain-fish", thereby taking advantage of their existing mental maps and the high salience of a hands-on learning moment. With a small class size, and the leeway to change the way I delivered material in accordance with my students' interests, I was able to help students connect to the material in a unique and exciting way.
