Profile bio

About Liam Sheasby

I currently work as a Digital Content Writer for The Access Group within their Health, Support and Care team. Digital media is the future and writing is my forte. I want to be doing this sort of work for many years to come, so I'm continually working to enhance my skillset.I have a BA (Hons) Journalism degree from the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) and several certifications from the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) including Shorthand. I also have a strong knowledge of page design and of proofing content. In my spare time I'm a very keen photographer (links below). It's something I've been passionate about for around 19 years now. I'm entirely self taught but I find my knowledge from what is merely a hobby has worked well in tandem with my writing skills. Who knows, maybe one day I'll get to write and shoot!I'm also a commentator - putting my dulcet tones to good use. I began late 2020, casting esports of a shooter game called 'Rust' on the streaming website Twitch. These days I am Rustoria's Head Caster. I host, commentate, perform in-game camera work, and handle broadcast production when necessary. I also manage recruitment to the broadcast team, staff training, technical support, performance feedback, and general managerial assistance for matter such as pay or worker disputes. This experience has helped me land an additional dream role working with Stretford Paddock Football Club; an amateur side from Manchester currently playing in League 2 of the Cheshire Football League. I provide highlight commentary and voiceover work for their matches, published on YouTube, and we will imminently be expanding this to full live matchday coverage for the club's fan ownership. My dream job as a child was to be a football commentator, so to be doing this now is quite surreal, but I hope my passion for learning and prior experience gained til now will help me thrive in what is a great opportunity.

Listed skills include Journalism, Web Content, Online Journalism, Creative Writing, and 46 others.

Digital Content Writer

Remote

I joined the Health & Social Care team at The Access Group in August 2022, where I am working as a Digital Content Writer focusing on healthcare content specifically. My role is to contribute content towards landing pages, blogs, educational resources, thought leadership pieces, and case studies - all with the aim of improving the user experience and helping The Access Group to attract more customers for its array of health and social care software solutions.

Head Caster @ Base Invaders

I have been casting an esports tournament called Base Invaders, set within the game 'RUST' since December 2020. I was promoted to Head Caster to manage and train the broadcast team in June 2021, and have maintained the role since.During my tenure we have promoted young, aspiring commentators to give them their first steps in the industry, as well as onboarded professional talent to act as mentors for our staff and given opportunities for women players to commentate a game that is heavily male-dominated.

Marketing Executive

Jewellery Quarter Bullion Limited

Birmingham, West Midlands, United Kingdom

I worked as a Marketing Executive for JQB Ltd on their BullionByPost websites and on Gold.co.uk.My primary role was to create news content across the websites, specifically focusing on the precious metals that BBP and GOLD sell, as well as related commentary about business, economics, and politics and how these may impact upon prices and future investments or wealth protection. In this role I was given more supervisory responsibility over colleagues within the Marketing team - using my experience and expertise to help with their tasks and ensure consistent quality work.

Nov 2018 - Aug 2022

Seo Content Writer

Jewellery Quarter Bullion Limited

Birmingham, United Kingdom

My initial position was SEO Copywriter / Content Writer. It is still my job to generate content (in the form of information pages and for products) and to increase the company's web traffic. As part of my initial training at JQB I spent two months exclusively working as part of the Customer Service team, in order to better understand the services we provide and the products on offer. I still work with the C.S. team when necessary; processing orders, performing security checks, and taking online payments via SagePay. This helps in the busiest periods but also allows other colleagues time to participate in specialist training as and when required.

Oct 2017 - Oct 2018

Email Content Marketing

Working with French agency Carburant as an English-language specialist and a content writer, I created fresh email content for a marketing campaign with Riot Games and 'League of Legends'. This content focused on new or lapsed users within the player base, and was designed to engage them as part of the game's community and get them playing.

Apr 2021 - May 2021

Sub Editor

Bristol, United Kingdom

I was a Sub Editor for the Press Association in their Puzzles department, located in Bristol. I designed, edited, and proofed all manner of puzzles for national and regional publications. Typically this revolved around Adobe InDesign, but I also utilised Photoshop for graphics and image manipulations.A few of the publications to feature my work are the Daily Star, Daily Express, Daily Mail, Western Daily Press, Johnstone Press group, Metro, London Evening Standard, and shortly the Dublin Evening Herald.Outside of this position I was also a music reviewer for the Press Association's Entertainment team, having several pieces published across an array of news services.

Feb 2015 - Oct 2017

Blogger

I was a blog writer for the gaming / eSports company Team Dignitas, specifically writing based on my experience and knowledge of the fast rising online game 'League of Legends'. The blogs detailed guides on tactics and play styles, as well as explanations on in-game roles, playable champions and what to do with them, and items in-game.My experience with SEO content and digital marketing helped me tailor the articles to a wide audience of players, regardless of experience, as well as non-players. The blogs also have strong keyword content so that they stand out in searches allowing greater reach.Unfortunately, due to the nature of the game and the industry and due to my full time work commitments, I found myself lacking the required time to play more to then improve my own abilities and offer greater insight, which in turns limited future articles and a growth in quality. I was not providing an observation like a match report, rather I was educating my readers with game knowledge. This takes time, more than I had, so I regretfully brought an end to my writing with the organisation. I may return in the future depending on work commitments.

Oct 2014 - Feb 2016

Blogger

I was interviewed by a reporter for The Huffington Post in connection with my experience of mental illness. Following a strong bout of Gastritis I developed an anxiety disorder, which - without support - spread into other aspects of my life and was a serious problem for 5 years and still continues to linger in one aspect or another to this day.Following my interview I was asked if I would like to blog my story, and following the success of that I was given an account from which to post in future. Posts have been few and far between due to my other commitments to the Press Association and Team Dignitas, but in 2016 I hope to produce more content for the news outlet and expand more portfolio.

Jun 2015 - Jul 2015

Copywriter/Social Media Assistant

Soccer Box

Stafford, Staffordshire, England

Copywriter and Social Media assistant for a football merchandise company. Responsibilities include producing fresh, unique copy as content for the website, as well as occasional filler roles around the business such as data entry and warehouse tasks. My other primary role is to manage the company's social media channels such as Facebook and Twitter. This is an area I greatly believe is beneficial to modern businesses and one that Soccer Box lacks in compared to rivals both large and small. Brand identity is the key.

May 2014 - Oct 2014

Blog Editor (& Photographer)

Mother'S Basement

Stafford

Blog Editor for 'The Danger Room' - a Mother's Basement presentation. Based in Stafford at the company HQ, the role requires content generation on subjects from TV & Film to Comics, Anime, Gaming, Tech... as well as attendance at relevant events and managing contributors. In addition I am the in-house photographer and I bear responsibility to manage all the contributors involved with the site.Edit: Rather disappointingly, this role ended prematurely due to financial difficulties on behalf of the parent company, Mother's Basement. It's greatly disappointing because the blog was to go independent of them and was making strong progress but the upside is I have even more experience now and in an area of writing I love.
