General Class Operator/MemberIowa City Amateur Radio Club Jul 2016 - PresentThe Iowa City Amateur Radio Club (ICARC) has been in existence since at least 1933, when it was first affiliated with the American Radio Relay League (ARRL), the national association for Amateur Radio. The club callsign, WØJV, belonged to a long-time club member, George Carson, who was a Physics Professor at the University of Iowa. The club obtained it as a memorial callsign following his death. The callsign is used on the club's two-meter repeater on 146.25/146.85 MHz, as well as for various club events, such as the annual Field Day exercise.

After a deferment to pursue dental residency/fellowship training (2016-2019), my clinical service in dental Health Professional Shortage Areas began in 2019 and concluded in 2024. I am grateful and proud to have made a positive contribution to addressing the oral health disparities by providing frontline clinical care to communities residing in HPSA regions.As an ambassador for the NHSC, I presented health professionals, students, and pre-professional student groups with information about the scholarship and loan repayment programs offered by the National Health Service Corps. I exhibited an NHSC Booth at the 2013 Choose Virginia Conference (primary healthcare students/clinicians in attendance). I participated in an NHSC Member Chat on April 23, 2014 to provide information for applicants and those interested in NHSC programs.

Along with my logistical role and interacting with the high caliber course directors and international healthcare workers during the two-week conference, I investigated two research questions regarding the work-life balance/burnout of international healthcare workers as well as best practices in sustaining dental programs/clinics in developing countries (on which I had the opportunity to present at the 2016 American Public Health Association Annual Meeting). Operating within a comprehensive medical home model, the clinic offers clients a full spectrum of adaptation from behavioral management/therapy to IV sedation to render services that improve and maintain oral health. Due to mandated closure of the Northern Virginia Training Center, the clinic model will be discontinued in its current infrastructure, though there are plans to replicate it in the community.

Most workshops will be 45 minute lunch lectures. The will be two 60-90 minute leadership development workshops with Yewande Austin, an artist and social activist. The conclusion of the workshops will focus on Diversity and Inclusion Task Force goals for applying the Student Leadership Development Series to the MCV campus climate in practical ways.Expectations: Students will walk away from each workshop with skills for practical application, and the last meeting of the semester will be student-led. Students meeting these criteria will be awarded a certificate from the Division of Health Sciences and Diversity.
